by Ciara Woods I think it’s great that administrators gave some students the chance to give their opinions on the things they think should be done or changed to make our school a better environment for us. By doing this administrators showed that they actually hear us students when we say “ we should be able to voice our opinions “ it gives a sense that we really are being heard and that what we say matters. This let us know that this is our school just as much its theirs. Our Teachers Need More Self Control by Tonji Audrey What does freedom of speech really mean? Last time I checked that applied to all citizens, well isn’t that students as well? Teachers say exactly what they feel, no matter how it makes us feel, they say what they want, in the tone they want, and in front of whoever. Which according the the 1st Amendment is allowed, however when a student proceed to say what needs to be let off of their chest, they are called “disrespectful”. They get spoken over and punished for saying what’s on their minds, granted it’s all in the way you deliver the message. I’m not saying that they should be able to cuss you out when things don’t go right, but just like teachers get frustrated and upset, students do as well. As long as what’s being said is appropriate and respectful, we should be heard out. As a student myself I can say that school isn’t the easiest and teachers aren’t the most understanding, but talking over students and arguing back and forth like kids isn’t going to work. I will say that sometimes we are in the wrong but provoking the situations doesn't make them right because someone has to be the adult. Everyone should have the chance to express their feelings or opinions or nobody should. If we get kicked out and wrote up for trying to say how we feel, then teachers should get in some form of trouble as well. People fail to realize that teachers hold weight and the same way I can say something to get under your skin you can say something to get under mine. At the end of the day we are all human, and you shouldn’t dish what you can’t take. Therefore, I conclude that everyone should be allowed to say what they want as long as it’s respectful. Teachers as well, there is a time and a place for everything and the indirect comments and disputes in the middle of a block is very unacceptable. Where's The Band ? by Ciara Woods The band is too good not to be playing at games, seems like this year they just stopped. The band students pay $400 just to go to practice and not play any games. As many games as we had and they only played two. Band members have to pay $400 EVERY YEAR. its honestly a waste of money and time if the students aren't showing their talents. I like hearing the band play so it's disappointing that they haven't played as many games as they did before. No More Limited Movement Written By: Ciara Woods Why do we have limited movement 4th block? We have to be escorted everywhere. What are we going to do when the escort never shows? Administration said we have to have an escort even when we have early dismissal! Again, what if the escort never shows? I understand the meaning behind this rule; you don't want the students roaming the halls just because it's the end of the day, but for the students that go home early, you can't make them wait for someone to walk them to the office so they can leave. They might need to be somewhere important at a certain time. You can't delay people’s plans because you want your rule to be followed. Another issue about limited movement is that administration interrupts instruction EVERYDAY to tell us that it's limited movement 4th block. When administration goes on the intercom everyday to tell us what we already know it's takes time away from us getting our work done. Administration should send teachers an email or something or say it on the announcements at the beginning of the day or during class change going to 4th block. |
